After 2 burglaries in my own community along with homeowner accounts in the local condominium buildings that I sell in, I thought this blog would be timely. Before we proceed, I think we all know that if a thief is determined, no security measure would be enough without being too intrusive to your own daily life. These measures should be taken as a deterrent to prevent the more random, “least path of resistance” crimes where the perpetrator is just looking for an easy target.
From the accounts I’ve heard within my own community and the condo buildings, it seems these are the most common:
- The perpetrator either followed a car into the complex or used a damaged or open door
- The perpetrator wore some kind of mask or face covering (except some package thefts)
For the time being, let’s leave out the smaller incidents of someone wanting to use the association pool or unwelcome visits to residents. For the thefts, from what I’ve heard, the suspects didn’t use access codes or old key fobs to enter.
Part 2 can be watched below where I go more in depth of what technology is out there. I speculate that “smart notifications” would be able to alert security guards (or residents) if someone entered the building without a key fob or if someone on camera was detected wearing a face covering. Especially for the buildings with many entrances, alerts would be needed if a door was left open.
